This image * (its text is shown below) is a scan of one of the many documents in Mayor McLean's files at the Marion County Historical Society's museum that were made available by museum director Chris Watts to Rev. Bill McAtee for research on his book, Transformed: A White Mississippi Pastor's Journey Into Civil Rights and Beyond, and which are used here by permission.
The Mayor here is enumerating the civil rights actions we had taken up through August 26. Based on the long August 21 entry in my "August 9" letter, which covered both the first Sunflower grocery picketing and the same-day Saturday night Autry's event, the latter took place on August 21, not his seeming-afterthought August 24 date. |
